Visit the gateway to Kerala, Kochi, a destination situated on the southwestern coast of the India, on a full-day tour. Kochi was the first European settlement in India and is located between blue waters of the Arabian Sea and Kerala’s emerald backwaters.

A gateway to Kerala, Kochi is situated on the southwestern coast of the India. The city was the first European settlement in India. Its location between blue waters of the Arabian Sea and Kerala’s emerald backwaters, and its rich medley of Indian and foreign architecture makes it a favorite tourist spot. It is also the industrial and commercial capital of South India.

Begin your trip with pick-up at your hotel, and then continue on to sightseeing. You will visit the Jewish Synagogue, which is the oldest synagogue in India, built in 1568. The synagogue is decorated with Chinese tiles and Belgian chandeliers.

Next, you will see St. Francis Church. The first European church of India, it is dedicated to St. Anthony. The church was built in 1516. it is famous for being the initial burial place for the explorer, Vasco de Gama, who was later taken to Lisbon.

Head to see the Dutch Palace, built by the Portuguese in 1557 as a gift to the Raja of Cochin. It is a 2-story building around a central courtyard and also has numerous temples. It is also known as Mattancherry Palace. After exploring the grounds, you will enjoy lunch at a city restaurant.

In the afternoon, make your way to the Indo-Portuguese Museum, established by Dr. Joseph Kureethra to protect the rich heritage of Portuguese influence on the city. The museum basically has 5 main sections which are Altar, Treasure, Procession, Civil Life, and Cathedral.

Finally, you will be taken to the Chinese Fishing Nets. Set up on teak wood and bamboo poles, these fishing nets have their origin in China. These were introduced by Chinese explorer Zheng He and the site has become a major tourist attraction. When you are done, you will be taken back to your hotel.
